Sheriff hopeful disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother will be resolved

Authorities say they are continuing to investigate the disappearance of Savannah Guthrie’s mother nearly six months after she vanished from her Arizona home.

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was reported missing after disappearing from her home near Tucson on Feb. 1. The FBI has said it is investigating the case as a kidnapping for ransom.

Savannah Guthrie renewed her appeal for information Monday, posting a video on Instagram asking anyone who may know something to “do the right thing” and “tell us where to look for her.”

That same day, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told NBC affiliate KVOA  News 4 Tucson the investigation is still moving forward and should not be considered a cold case.

“We still have DNA that’s not just one lab or two labs,” Nanos said. “These are labs all across the country that are talking to one another about how best to look at what they have in front of them for DNA evidence. And, so I’m still positive we will resolve this case.”

Authorities have not announced any major developments since the FBI’s July 1 update, but Nanos said detectives continue to investigate every tip, no matter how small.

During an appearance on NBC’s TODAY in June, Guthrie also urged anyone with information to contact investigators, saying her family has been living in uncertainty since her mother’s disappearance.
