Pedestrian killed in crash on I-885 in Durham

Durham police are investigating a crash that killed a person on Interstate 885 late Monday night. 

Just before 10:30 p.m. Monday, officers responded to a crash on the northbound side of the interstate between the exits to Holloway Street and Cheek Road.

They found a pedestrian who was hit by a vehicle. Police said the person died from their injuries. 

The northbound side of I-885 was closed for hours as police investigated. Traffic was flowing again around 4:30 a.m.

The WRAL Breaking News Tracker arrived to find a large emergency response that shut down all northbound lanes of the highway as investigators worked to determine what happened. 

It's unclear whether the driver remained on scene or will face any charges. WRAL is working to learn the names of all the people involved.
