Chapel Hill man charged with attempted murder in Raleigh train station assault on conductors

WRAL News on Saturday learned a man accused of assaulting two conductors the day before at a Raleigh train station is now facing an attempted murder charge for the assault.

According to court documents obtained by WRAL News, Terence James Kiernan, 19, was smacking the side of a train on Friday at Union Station and tried climbing on top of it before he assaulted two train conductors.

When police tried to arrest him, the court documents claim that Kiernan first ran away from police officers. Police caught up to him and tried to handcuff him, but Kiernan began kicking the arresting officers and resisted getting into the cruiser.

Police in court documents said they recovered a white marijuana vape, a synthetic cannabinoid. Police charged Kiernan with the following:

• Attempted first-degree murder.
• Felony posession of a synthetic cannabinoid.
• Two counts of misdemeanor assaulting a police officer.
• Misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
• Misdemeanor simple assault.
• Misdemearnor resisting a public officer.

Kiernan was taken to the Wake County Detention Center on no bond for the attempted murder charge. He's expected to appear in court on Monday, Aug. 31.
