Another teenager charged in connection to July 4 violence around Raleigh. Here's what we know

Another teenager’s arrest was announced Saturday in connection to a shooting that happened after thousands of teenagers and young adults descended on Fourth of July celebrations in Raleigh on Capital Boulevard, Glenwood South and at Brier Creek. 

Six teenagers have been detained or arrested and charged as juveniles related to those gatherings that turned violent, resulting in four shootings. Two others are charged as adults.

A 15-year-old was arrested in Durham by the Durham County Sheriff's Office, and was transfered to the juvenile detention center in Raleigh. 

The teenager has been charged with the following: 

• Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
• Discharging a firewarm into occupied property (2 counts)
• Felony riot
• Going armed to the terror of the public
• Possession of a firearm by a minor

Kenna Daughtry

Daughtry, 17, was taken into custody July 18 in Goldsboro and charged as an adult in connection with a shooting at 850 Capital Blvd.

She was charged as an adult with:

• Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury
• Discharge a weapon into occupied property
• Going armed to the terror of the public
• Possession of firearm by a minor
• Discharging a firearm within city limits

Daughtry’s first court appearance happened July 20, where the judge decided she will remain in jail without bond. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 10.

Justin Brown

Raleigh Police arrested 16-year-old Justin Brown and charged him as an adult in connection to the shooting in the Brier Creek area.

He was charged with:

• Assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill
• Discharge of a weapon into an occupied motor vehicle (two counts)
• Felony riot
• Possession of a firearm by a minor
• Going armed to the terror of the public

Brown is being held without bond. His next court appearance is scheduled for Aug. 3.

Two juveniles linked to shootings on Glenwood Ave.

Raleigh Police obtained a secure custody order for a 16-year-old in connection to the shooting at 610 Glenwood Ave.

That person was being held in a juvenile detention facility charged with:

• Two counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury
• Going armed to the terror of the public
• Possession of a firearm by a minor
• Three counts of discharging a firearm within city limits

Another 16-year-old was arrested in connection with the shooting at 14 Glenwood Ave.

That person was being held in a juvenile detention facility charged with:

• Felony riot
• Possession of a firearm by a minor
• Discharging a firearm within city limits

Two juveniles face charged linked to violence at Brier Creek

Raleigh Police said a 17-year-old turned himself in to authorities in Durham County after the department obtained a secure custody order for him in connection to the violence at Brier Creek.

He is being held in a juvenile detention facility charged with:

• Possession of a firearm by a minor
• Resisting, delaying and obstructing a public officer
• Simple possession of a schedule VI substance

Raleigh Police said another juvenile was detained in the Brier Creek area and was found to be in possession of a handgun. Police said  they did not believe that juvenile was one of the shooters.

WRAL is also aware of two more juvenile arrests, but no additional details were made available.

Police officers said that the incident began at the Brier Creek Commons shopping center, where 3,000 teens showed up for a Star Spangled Block Party held near the shopping center's clocktower.

After the teens were removed from the venue, police say a large fight broke out, and two adults were injured after shots were fired. One adult was hit by gunfire, while the other was hit by glass from a shot-out car window.

According to the Raleigh Police Department, about half of the teens who showed up on Glenwood South were at the incident in Brier Creek.

Police said they took a juvenile into custody at Brier Creek and found that that person had a handgun. However, they did not believe that they were one of the shooters.

After the Glenwood South shootings, police officers were investigating a related shooting at a gas station on Capital Boulevard that left two people hurt.

Everyone injured in the shootings at Brier Creek, Glenwood South and Capital Boulevard is expected to be okay, and police said they are still searching for the shooters in all three incidents.

The Raleigh Police Investigative unit is still investigating the remaining two crime scenes: 700 Tucker Street and 620 West Lane Street.
