Two girls seriously hurt after van hits golf cart in Wake County

Two teenage girls were seriously hurt Friday afternoon after the golf cart they were in was hit by a minivan, officials said.

The crash happened on Stony Hill Road in front of the entrance to the Stony Bend neighborhood in northern Wake County close to the Hasentree Golf Club. 

The golf cart was crossing Stony Hill Road when it was hit by the van, according to Northern Wake Fire Department Assistant Chief Blake Wright.

Both girls were transported to Duke Hospital as trauma patients, officials said.

The driver of the van was not injured.

Authorities are still investigating what led to the crash, and no charges have been filed.
