Caught on cam: Man fired shots at homes in Las Vegas neighborhood

A North Las Vegas neighborhood is rattled after a gunman with an AR-15 opened fire at homes.

Police said the gunman made his way through a neighborhood on Yellowhammer Place on Sunday, banging on the door of a home and firing shots from the front steps.

"I'm just glad we weren't home at the time, because I don't know what we would have done," described the homeowner, who didn't want to be identified. "I also have a 1-year-old at home, so that would have been a really scary situation."

The homeowner shared video from her home's security camera that captured shots being fired.

"I don't know if one of us would have tried to answer the door; I don't know," the homeowner said. "I would like to assume if we heard gunshots we would run and go upstairs, but thankfully we were not there."

The front of the home still has damage. The homeowner said a bullet made its way through her kitchen wall.

Before the gunman reached her doorstep, neighbor Ryan Adams was in his garage when he said the shooter came toward him.

"I happened to look up at my street and saw the shooter coming down the street holding the gun in the middle of the day," Adams said. "It was hot ... [he had] no shirt on [and was] sweaty, [so] I wasn't sure if he was playing with a squirt gun. It wasn't until he got closer that I was like, 'Oh yeah, that's an AR that he is armed with.'"

Adams said he made a run for it, closed his garage door and went to his window to get video. He said he "tried to stop him from getting in because he was coming towards me."

Adams said shots were being fired from his neighbor's house into his house.

There is damage to his garage door from the bullets. He said his family is "pretty shook up."

NBC News reports the suspect resisted police officers when they tried to take him into custody, saying he became unresponsive and was later declared dead at a hospital. No additional information was shared.
