Two people found dead from gunshot wounds during welfare check in Vance County

Two people died of gunshots inside a home after Vance County deputies discovered them Monday morning during a welfare check.

Vance County deputies responded to a welfare check around 10 a.m. Monday in the Gillside community, after the two did not arrive for work. Deputies found a man and a woman inside with gunshot wounds.

It's unclear what led up to the shooting.

Authorities are not publicly identifying the people who died as they work to notify their families about what happened.

The sheriff’s office said it does not appear to be a random act of violence.
