Three Johnston County water districts were asked to conserve water for 24 hours after a water main ruptured Monday night.

According to officials, crews damaged the water main while working at the Neuse River Bridge reconstruction site on US Highway 301 in Smithfield.

Johnston County Public Utilities asked residents in the following water districts to limit non-essential water usage:

  • Ingrams
    • Meadow
      • Southeast Lowgrounds

This notice is temporary, county officials said.
