WRAL News has learned that a truck driver charged in a deadly Harnett County crash on Friday has been released from jail as he waits for his next court hearing.

According to court documents, David Allen Cuellar, 63, paid his $5,000 bond to be released from the Harnett County Jail.

Troopers said the crash happened Friday afternoon on NC-87 after Cuellar, the tractor-trailer driver, did not slow down at a stoplight and ran into the back of a Hyundai Palisade SUV, causing it to hit a nearby Chevy Tahoe.

One child, an 8-year-old boy, died in the crash, and another child, a 9-year-old girl, was seriously injured. WRAL News went to the site of the crash on Sunday and saw a memorial.

WRAL spoke to people who witnessed the crash. While they say Friday's crash was heartbreaking and louder than normal, they usually see multiple crashes a week.

Daisy Monjaras, who works at Olivia Tobacco & Vape, wants to see some change happen.

Monjaras found that many semi-trucks use the road and often speed through on NC-87, which has a posted speed limit of 55mph, adding to her concern.

"I don't know if they need to change the limit or have more troopers to patrol the area, but something needs to be done for sure, too many people are dying," Monjaras said.

Cuellar was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle and failure to reduce speed. He is expected to appear in court on those charges in August.
