A Sanford man who was mistakenly released from jail is now back behind bars.

Jonathon Michael Jackson, 39, was arrested at a home by Lee County Sheriff’s Office on Thursday. Deputies said Jackson had multiple outstanding warrants after his mistaken release from the Wayne County Jail.

While at the home, officials said deputies found drugs and a stolen firearm while searching the home. As authorities were taking him into custody, deputies said he attempted to conceal a bag of methamphetamine inside a patrol vehicle.

According to the Sherrif’s Office, deputies saw drugs, drug paraphernalia, ammunitions and firearms cases which prompted a second warrant.

Authorities then said deputies confiscated fentanyl, methamphetamine, psilocybin mushrooms, synthetic marijuana and two firearms, including one reported stolen. Deputies also found a child in the home.

Jackson faces several charges, including:

  • Possession with intent to sell and deliver controlled substances
    • Possession of a firearm by a convicted felon
      • Exposing a child to controlled substances
        • Maintaining a dwelling for drug activity
          • Possession of a stolen firearm

Jackson is being held without bond.
