Terry Sanford takes No. 1 in final boys golf rankings for 2026

For the second time in the last four years, Terry Sanford is the No. 1 team in the HighSchoolOT boys golf statewide rankings.

The statewide top 25, presented by the State Employees' Credit Union, has been around for six years. This season, Terry Sanford broke the N.C. High School Athletic Association championship record for the fewest strokes as a team.

Right behind the Bulldogs were 8A champ Pinecrest, NCISAA 4A champ Charlotte Latin, 8A runner-up Broughton, and 4A champ Stuart Cramer.

In total, nine state champions finished the year in the top 25: 7A champ Marvin Ridge (6th), NCISAA 3A champ Greensboro Day (7th), 5A champ Oak Grove (11th), 3A champ East Surry (20th), and NCISAA 2A champ Wayne Country Day (22nd). Unranked state champs include Christ the King (2A), Northside (1A), and Northeast Academy (NCISAA 1A).

The HighSchoolOT top 25 is the state's top set of rankings, featuring teams from all classifications across the four major associations.

In boys golf, HighSchoolOT has a preseason, midseason, end-of-regular-season, and final rankings. HSOT weighs scores from the regular season and championshp events to come up with the final top 25. To even out disparities in course rating and slope, handicap differential is used to determine the rankings instead of to-par scores.
