As the Stanley Cup Final heats up, Raleigh Mayor Janet Cowell has placed a friendly bet with the mayor of Las Vegas, Shelley Berkley.

"If the Canes win, she will be sending me a sequined Canes jersey because Vegas is good at bling ... and if the Vegas Golden Knights win, she will be getting barbecue," Cowell said.

The city of Raleigh shared the mayor's message on Facebook on June 1, the start of the Atlantic hurricane season.

"Here in Raleigh, it's always hurricane season," the mayor said, holding up a Carolina Hurricanes flag. "I was here in 2006 when the Hurricanes last won a championship, and I am so excited to be mayor overseeing this game and cheering on our home team."

The Hurricanes will play Game 2 against the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday at Lenovo Center  before heading to Las Vegas for Games 3 and 4. Carolina lost Game 1, 5-4, on Tuesday.

The Canes will be on the road for the following games of the series:

  • Game 3: Saturday, June 6, 8 p.m.
    • Game 4: Tuesday, June 9, 8 p.m.
      • Game 6 (if necessary): Sunday, June 14, 8 p.m.
