The town of Benson announces their selection for interim town manager after meeting Wednesday evening.

Tanner O’Quin will fill the position. He is the town’s current planning director. As interim town manager, he will oversee day-to-day operations of the town and assist the Board of Commissioners in meeting the town’s needs.

The search for a permanent manager will continue, and the town said their focus remains on maintaining high-quality public services, responsible financial management, pursuing economic development opportunities and preparing for future growth.

In May, the Benson town manager and assistant manager resigned from their positions. Dane Rideout previously held the position, but resigned with a video circulated online of an outburst during a town meeting.

O’Quin has held previous roles in Durham and Lee counties before being hired by the Town of Benson in April 2025.

“My role now will be split as I continue to operate as the planning director and interim manager. I have an amazing team that I can rely on to help steer the ship,” said O’Quin.

The search began after a video of an outburst by previous Benson town manager, Dane Rideout.

Calla Godwin, assistant town manager gave her resignation but has been acting as town manager until O'Quin will be sworn in on June 8 at 7 p.m.
